New research published by Yale University reveals that people around the world are highly concerned about climate change and want governments to take action on it.
In this survey, conducted by Yale University Climate Change Communication Program researchers with sample groups using Facebook in 30 different countries, on people’s attitudes towards climate change, Turkey also takes part.
The report shows country-level results for each topic. At the global level, the following stand out:
– The overwhelming majority of citizens in each country surveyed now believe that climate change is happening (ranging from 78-94%). Climate denialism is confined to a small fraction of the population everywhere. (varying between 2-12%).
– Concern for future generations comes to the fore: Majority in all countries accept that climate change will harm them. In most of the countries surveyed, people believe that climate change will cause “great damage” to future generations.
– The majority of people in each country surveyed strongly support the Paris Climate Agreement to tackle climate change. However, he believes that climate change should be among the highest priorities of governments.
Considering the results about Turkey;
– In the study, most of the responses from Turkey stand out as people need more information about climate change.
– More than half of the respondents from Turkey are in the “very concerned” group, who believe that climate change is an immediate threat caused by human activities and strongly support climate policies.
