Moving rapidly towards globalization with its operations in 2 continents and 5 countries, Aksa Energy has published its 2020 Sustainability Report.
Aksa Energy, which has taken important steps towards globalization since 2015 and has power plants in Turkey as well as in the TRNC, Ghana, Madagascar and Mali, continues its journey in the global arena with new investments and continues its sustainability-oriented works.
Aksa Energy Chairman and CEO Cemil Kazancı, who stated that they attach importance to Aksa Energy’s sustainability performance as much as financial performance, said, “Within the scope of our business model that prioritizes economic, environmental and social development, we are putting our signature under exemplary practices in the sector with our sustainability efforts that we started in 2014. We continue our investments both in the international arena and in Turkey. BIST Sustainability Index, which we have been in since 2015, The Trillion Tonne Communiqué, which is a declaration made to the world by companies sensitive to climate change and demanding measures to combat climate change, and the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) we signed in 2017. national and international indicators of our commitments in the field. We act in accordance with the 10 principles of the United Nations Global Compact and contribute to seven of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Referring to the highlights of Aksa Energy’s sustainability report, Cemil Kazancı said, “We reduced our mains water use by 39% compared to 2019. We recycled 565,268 tons of non-hazardous waste and 3.323 tons of hazardous waste. We recovered 558,716 m³ of water that we used in our operations. In addition to realizing an environmental investment of 2.3 million TL in 2020, we provided 114 person*hour environmental management system training to our employees.
17,170 person* hours of OHS training in 2020
Within the framework of its management approach within the scope of Occupational Health and Safety, one of its sustainability priorities, Aksa Energy implements pioneering occupational health and safety practices to ensure the continuous improvement of its performance in this area. The company conducted 17,170 person* hours of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) training in 2020. More than 90 percent of the total trainings carried out by Aksa Energy during the year, which strives to increase the competencies of its employees in OHS with the goal of “zero accident” in its power plants, consisted of OHS trainings.
Investing in biodiversity projects since 2015
Aksa Energy continues to develop projects to monitor endangered species in its operating areas and to reduce the negative impacts of these species on their habitats. Aksa Energy, which has been examining Mountain Gazelle, Striped Hyena, Red Deer, Brown Bear and Lynx in their natural habitats with photo traps since 2015, without harming them, shares the images it has obtained, the findings and the reports it has prepared with the associations it works with, and carries out various studies for the continuation of the species. . Finally, the Company, which started a project to examine and map the breeding, sheltering and crawling areas of Mediterranean monk seals, which are under the threat of extinction and are known to visit some caves on the coasts of the TRNC, is preparing to share the information it has obtained with the competent authorities.
