Details of Commitment to Combating Biodiversity Loss Disclosed

A series of actions have been announced by Schneider Electric aimed at protecting and restoring threatened biodiversity in many parts of the world.

Recognized by Corporate Knights as the world’s most sustainable company and with a long history in environmental and climate protection, Schneider Electric made a commitment to combat biodiversity loss last year. Aiming to accelerate actions that protect nature, Schneider Electric has announced its commitments under Act4nature International, an alliance of NGOs, academic institutions and public institutions.

The alarming pace of biodiversity loss and environmental degradation and climate change are not only damaging local ecosystems and individual species, but are increasingly becoming a pressing concern for societies, economies and businesses around the world, heralding potential major food security issues and other challenges. . Solving this problem requires concerted actions and institutions have to play a role in this.

Olivier Blum, Director of Strategy and Sustainability at Schneider Electric, said: “We urgently need to assess our impact on nature and biodiversity, but protecting and restoring our ecosystem will take much more than that. Quantifying resource use and targeting bold expectations is key, but success will be achieved through concrete and urgent action that does not compromise our needs or the needs of future generations.”

In its commitment to biodiversity, Schneider Electric will take actions to:

– Quantify and regularly publish the impact on biodiversity. Last October, Schneider Electric published the world’s first end-to-end biodiversity footprint using the “Global Biodiversity Score” tool, which calculates a company’s biodiversity footprint along its entire supply chain.

– Achieve net-zero loss of biodiversity in direct operations by 2030 and align biodiversity targets with science,

– Developing solutions and technologies that contribute to the conservation of biodiversity by optimizing the use of resources throughout their entire life cycle,

– Partnering with suppliers to phase out single-use plastics in packaging, use recycled cardboard, and help them drastically reduce CO2 emissions.

Partnering with NGOs and investment funds and doing business with employees and partners for local initiatives. For example, ensuring that all their facilities implement biodiversity conservation and restoration programs and that their facilities located in water-stressed areas implement water conservation plans.
