September 24 is the most important day of this year for young people globally. On Friday, September 24, millions of young people from around the world and 1000s of young people from our country come together at events.

Climate activists, who will gather in front of Eminönü Pier in Kadıköy at 17.00, will organize a mass march to the Museum Gazhane after the press release. The strike will continue with forums and concerts to be held at Museum Gazhane at 18.00. Can Bonomo, Nova Norda, Can Kazaz and Nilipek will support the strike with their concerts.
“Change the system, not the climate”
Young climate activists want our way of life based on the exploitation of nature to change, the way we produce and consume, that destroys nature, and that is driving the planet’s ecosystems to collapse and polluting it.
In their call for the global climate strike, the youth said, “Our planet is being exposed to the effects of the climate crisis more and more every day. The critical systems that sustain life on our planet are approaching the point of irreversible collapse. ” they say.
Climate Emergency Should Be Declared
So far, in total, 35 countries with more than 1 billion people and in 2021 local and regional governments have declared climate emergencies.
Among the countries that have declared a climate emergency; Argentina, Canada, Australia, European Union countries separately and the European Union as a regional union, there is the United States, Malta, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan.
Youth teams in Turkey started a petition on Change.org to declare a climate emergency in Turkey>>> They gathered their demands, which they will voice in the Climate Strike, under the title of “Climate Emergency”. These demands include the preparation of an action plan regarding the transition to a carbon-free order in our country, and the necessary arrangements by the central and local governments. The petition, which collected nearly 10 thousand signatures in 2 days, can be accessed via change.org/iklimacildurumu.
