A solar and energy storage facility established by AES Distributed Energy and Kauai Island Service Cooperative (KIUC) is located in a settlement of Lāwa on the southern shore of Kauai.
The plant has a power of 28 MW and has an energy storage capacity of 100 MWh to 5 hours. With the established PV plant, 11 percent of the electricity demand in the Kauai region is met, and Hawaii is expected to increase the share of electricity generation from renewable energy to more than 50 percent.
Located on the southern shore of Kauai, on a land of 155 acres, the solar plant and storage facility is one of the largest storage systems in the state of Hawaii and the world.
