President of the Russian Federation Tatarstan Republic Rüstem Minnihanov had promised to invest in Turkey’s first and only chemistry specialized OIZ, GEBKİM, which he visited with the Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank on Wednesday, June 23. A preliminary protocol agreement was signed between the petro-chemistry giant Tatneft and GEBKİM for the investment of maleic anhydride project. With maleic anhydride to be produced for the first time in Turkey at GEBKİM, raw material dependency will be reduced. Thus, it is aimed to prevent imports of 100 million dollars.

Vefa İbrahim Araci, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kocaeli-Gebze Chemistry Specialized OSB (GEBKIM), and Tatneft General Manager Nail Maganov, who came together in the evening on Thursday, June 24, under the chairmanship of Vice President Fuat Oktay and President of the Russian Federation Tatarstan Republic Rüstem Minnihanov, gave a speech at GEBKİM. signed a preliminary protocol agreement for the investment that will realize the production of anhydrite. Speaking about the preliminary protocol agreement they signed with Tatneft, GEBKİM OIZ Chairman Vefa İbrahim Araci said, “As Turkey’s first and only chemistry OIZ, we host strong chemical manufacturers in their field. Last year, GEBKİM companies realized exports worth 600 million dollars. GEBKİM gathers chemical manufacturers together to form an ecosystem that feeds on each other and eliminates the logistics problem. We will be an important production base for Tatneft with our location and our ecosystem that gathers chemical manufacturers in a single address.”

Mentioning the importance of producing malelic anhydride in Turkey, GEBKİM OSB Chairman Vefa İbrahim Araç said, “Maleic anhydride is an important raw material and by-product in the chemical industry. Maleic anhydride, which has not been produced in Turkey before, will be made available for the first time at Tatneft facilities to be established in GEBKİM. Thus, foreign dependency on raw materials will decrease. With the production of maleic anhydride in Turkey, we aim to prevent imports of 100 million dollars. With the production of this product in Turkey, Turkey’s exports will be strengthened. “Competitive power will increase in foreign markets,” he said.
