The first concrete pouring on the foundation plate of the reactor building of the 5th unit of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in India was carried out with an official ceremony today. Thus, an important step was taken in the third phase of the power plant construction. The ceremony was held via videoconference due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Prior to pouring concrete, the concrete bed was prepared for the foundations of the reactor building’s auxiliary reactor building, where the Main Control Room is located, the turbine building, and the power supply building, which supplies energy for normal operation, emergency and safety control systems.
Russian companies have started the production of equipment for the reactor facilities and turbine building, as well as the equipment that requires priority installation for the 5th unit.
Following the signing of the General Framework Agreement on the construction of the 3rd and 4th units of the power plant on April 10, 2014, negotiations on the construction of the 5th and 6th units started and as a result, these two units have the same design as the 3rd and 4th units. the decision had been made. On 01 June 2017, with the Credit Protocol of the Intergovernmental Agreement dated 05 December 2008, the General Framework Agreement regarding the 5th and 6th units was signed.
