In the global climate crisis, where the alarm bells are ringing, energy and food supply security are considered as priority topics. On the other hand, exemplary projects where energy is produced with efficient and environmentally friendly methods increase the hopes for a solution for a sustainable future. Standing out with its R&D studies, Teksan meets the electricity and hot water needs of the greenhouse with the biogas cogeneration system it has installed in the hydroponic greenhouse system, which is one of these exemplary projects. It is aimed to prevent the emission of 16 tons of methane and 10 tons of carbon dioxide per year in the greenhouse where environmentally friendly agriculture is carried out.
Under the leadership of Ege University Biomass Energy Systems and Technologies Center (BESTMER), in partnership with TEKSAN and BHK Yapı, the ‘Development of Modern Greenhouses with Zero Waste, Low Operating Cost, Flexible Production System with the Use of Biochemical-Thermochemical Hybrid Biomass Energy Production Technologies’ project was implemented. Ministry of Agriculture and
Investing in the future of the world with renewable energy solutions, Teksan’s biogas-fueled cogeneration unit, developed specifically for this project, which sets an example for the use of renewable energy in different fields, meets all the energy needs for air conditioning, lighting and automation of the greenhouse where soilless vertical farming is carried out, while also meeting the need for hot water in winter. In addition, fermented manure, which is one of the outputs of the hybrid system used, can be used as a nutrient solution in the soilless agriculture system, and the exhaust gas of the cogeneration system can be used in carbon dioxide fertilization.
Teksan Marketing Board Member Ebru Ata Tuncer, who stated that the energy sector has a critical importance in the fight against global warming, in our day when uninterrupted energy is indispensable, said: “The need for energy is increasing day by day, and energy resources are being depleted at the same rate. The limited resources of the world are not enough for the population of around 7 billion. Alternative sources based on renewable energy are of great importance for energy supply security. As a brand that respects life as a whole, we invest in the future of the world with our renewable energy solutions. As a renewable energy source that has an important place in our product range, systems working with biogas draw attention as one of the most environmentally friendly electricity generation systems. Biogas-powered sets prevent waste from harming nature, while reducing energy production costs. With the biogas cogeneration system we installed in the hydroponic greenhouse project, we have set a good example for the work that can be done in the field of renewable energy. While our cogeneration system used in the project will provide uninterrupted energy for the greenhouse, it will also meet the need for hot water in winter. The exhaust gas of the cogeneration system can be used for carbon dioxide fertilization. In addition to the economic gain thus obtained, it will contribute to the protection of the environment by preventing the release of 16 tons of methane and 10 tons of carbon dioxide per year in the area where the system is installed. We hope that this exemplary project, which we have implemented under the leadership of BESTMER, will become widespread and increase the interest in biogas fueled systems.”
