In his speech at the Konya Energy Summit and Fair, which he attended via videoconference, Minister of Energy Dönmez explained that the Turkish energy sector has advanced to an exemplary position in the region and in the world with investments and innovative applications.
Noting that Turkey continues to show a high performance in the energy field during the new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19) process that has stagnated the sectors, Dönmez said, “We started the countdown to enter the club of hundreds by increasing our total installed power to 100,000 megawatts. Our
Emphasizing that Turkey ranks 12th in the world in terms of renewable installed power, and 5th in Europe, Dönmez said, “As of the end of April, we increased our renewable energy installed power to approximately 52 thousand megawatts. Thus, we have achieved an increase of more than 4 times in 19 years. While 38% of our power is from renewable sources, today we have increased this rate to over 52%.” used the phrases.
Pointing out that a significant breakthrough has been made in wind and solar energy with the Renewable Energy Resource Areas (YEKA) model, Dönmez said:
“The first YEKA competition we held was the one thousand megawatt YEKA GES-1 we allocated to Konya Karapınar. We show a development based on resources, technology and markets in renewable energy. Renewable energy on a resource basis has a significant share in electricity generation, while renewable energy technologies have a ‘Made in We have started the ‘Turkey’ period. Recently, we have taken steps to promote renewable energy on a producer and consumer basis under free market conditions, with practices such as YEK-G and Green Tariffs.”
On the other hand, stating that preparations are continuing for a new solar YEKA of 1000 megawatts and a new wind YEKA of 2,000 megawatts, Dönmez stated that this year, with a total of 4 YEKA competitions, an additional renewable installed power of 4,000 megawatts will be included in Turkey’s portfolio.
Minister Dönmez stated that they received feedback from many countries regarding the implementation of Turkey’s YEKA model in their own countries and said, “We are very happy and proud of these feedbacks. Taking our work as an example is actually the best indicator of doing the job right. We have a strong target in renewable energy. We are determined to make Turkey the technology and production center of renewable energy on this path we started by saying ‘more domestic, more renewable’.” made its assessment.
