Prototype production was carried out in the project titled “Innovative Domestic Industrial Scale Fresnel Collector Development and Prototype Production” supported by TÜBİTAK 1003 priority areas at the GAPYENEV center of Harran University.
GAPYENEV Center Director The project by Prof. Dr. M. Azmi Aktacir was started on February 1, 2020. In the last period, linear fresnel solar collector was designed in accordance with the criteria targeted in the project, and prototypes were manufactured with local facilities. Performance tests and usability for various applications will be examined in the last 6 months of the project.
Fresnel collectors; It is one of the linear condensation solar energy technologies consisting of reflective (mirror) surface, absorber and heat transfer fluid passing through it. Since it has a mechanism that follows the sun, it shows high performance. While water at a temperature of 70-80°C can be obtained with planar collectors, which are widely used in the production of hot water for use in our country, high temperatures are reached far above this value in condensed solar collectors. In this project, which is carried out entirely with local resources, a temperature of over 200°C is achieved by using solar energy. The thermal energy obtained from here can be used to meet the energy needs in many sectors.
In the project, a multidisciplinary study was carried out with a team of academicians from Harran University Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering and Physics Departments.
Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Sabri Çelik visited the GAPYENEV center and received information about the project works. In his statement, our rector emphasized that the work carried out by the GAPYENEV center is very important for our country, and that the use of thermal solar energy technologies in industrial applications will reduce energy costs and this will increase the competitiveness of the industrialists and expressed his satisfaction for the development of this project at Harran University. In addition, he stated that necessary studies will be carried out in the next period for the dissemination of this system.
GAPYENEV Center Director and project manager Prof. Dr. M. Azmi Aktacir said in a statement; “In recent years, solar energy studies in our country have been mainly on photovoltaic systems, and flat collectors with low temperature values are used in thermal solar energy applications. Instead, by using concentrated solar energy technologies, high temperature will be reached and the high thermal energy need, especially in industrial applications, will be met cheaply and easily. With this project, the design and production processes of linear fresnel solar collector systems were carried out with the facilities of Harran University. Our work on this issue continues. Especially in Şanlıurfa, which is the province with the highest solar energy potential, this region will be more attractive for investments by obtaining thermal energy from solar energy. Today, when climate change is felt most, the development of renewable energy sources and energy efficient systems and the dissemination of these systems in our country will make significant contributions in many areas such as the environment and economy. I would like to thank TÜBİTAK for their support to this project.
