UN Global Compact is launching the “Climate Ambition Accelerator Program” (CAA) to accelerate the practices of companies to combat climate change and to provide a roadmap for companies to set science-based emission reduction targets. The program to be implemented in 25 countries started in Turkey. 19 companies from Turkey are participating in the program, which brings together online academy trainings and workshops and includes approximately 450 companies all over the world. With the program that will last until December 2021, participants will have access to global best practices, opportunities to learn from each other, capacity building sessions and academy trainings.
The Climate Goal Acceleration Program to be carried out simultaneously in 25 countries by the UN Global Compact, the world’s largest multi-stakeholder sustainability platform with 12 thousand signatories, has also started in Turkey. With the program, which is planned to end in December 2021, it is aimed to provide participating companies with the necessary knowledge and skills in the processes of 
setting emission targets in line with the 1.5°C target and based on science. The Climate Goal Acceleration Program will also provide a roadmap for companies to create the strategies they will need on their way to “net zero”.
Companies from different sizes and sectors will be included in the program; Akis Gyo, Anadolu Efes, Bantboru, Çimsa, Egemet, Elif Plastik, Kazan Soda, Koç Holding, Kordsa, Mavi Giyim, Originn, Penti, Tekfen Holding, TOYO Printing, Turkey Industrial Development Bank (TSKB), Turkish Development and Investment Bank, Yaşar Holding, Yorglass and Zorlu Energy will participate
Global Compact Turkey Board Member and Environmental Working Group Co-chairman Servet Yıldırım, who made the opening speech of the program, said, “We are hopeful to see the determination of our companies to take concrete steps in the fight against climate change by being included in this program. Without doubt; The fight against climate change cannot be postponed. As the private sector, we should take our place in this struggle; We need to take concrete steps very quickly and reconstruct our business models and company strategies.” said.
The program offers two different content, basic and advanced.
Thanks to the program, which offers differentiated content for SMEs and large companies on the Science-Based Targets determination methodology, companies will be able to follow online academy sessions with technical information, build capacity with workshops to take place, participate in high-level meetings between stakeholders at the country level, and They will be able to create the roadmap they need to set science-based emissions reduction targets to reach net zero by 2050.
