Development Investment Bank General Manager İbrahim Öztop said, “We see it as our responsibility to provide financial support to wind power plants, which play a major role in our country’s renewable energy power. As of the end of 2020, our bank provided 512 million dollars of financing support to WPP projects. We aim to continue our investments in the WPP field until the end of 2021, providing an additional 310 million dollars of financing, and allocating a total of 822 million dollars to this area only. Our support for RES projects will continue in the future.”
Drawing attention to the importance of concrete steps to be taken on climate change, the Development Investment Bank has been instrumental in meeting the annual energy needs of 475 thousand households, thanks to the 626 MW installed power WPP projects it has financed and started to operate, working with the goal of a Turkey with less external dependence on energy. The Bank will also play a role in meeting the annual energy needs of 700 thousand households by providing a total of 920 MW of WPP installed power with the WPP investments it will finance in 2021. Stating that the importance of WPPs is gradually increasing on June 15, World Wind Day, the Bank contributes to the reduction of 1.65 million tons of equivalent carbon dioxide emissions with the WPP investments it finances.
Indicating that 10% of the WPP projects realized in Turkey in 2020 were financed by the Development and Investment Bank, Öztop said, “WPP projects constitute 33% of the energy projects we provide financing support in terms of installed power. As the bank, we have supported a total of 23 WPP projects so far. The installed power of the WPPs that went into operation is 626 MW, and the total amount of financing provided to these projects is at the level of 512 million dollars. By concentrating on WPP projects throughout 2021, we aim to provide an additional $310 million in financing support and reach a total of $822 million in financing of WPP projects by the end of 2021. Our financial support for RES projects will continue in the coming years.”

Emphasizing that in addition to providing financial support to projects, they carry out environmental and social risk assessment studies in line with international standards, regardless of the investment subject and amount for each project, Öztop said, “As of the end of 2020, renewable energy and energy efficiency projects constitute 57% of our loan portfolio and sustainability The share of themed loans in our portfolio is 63%. We provided loans of around 1.2 billion TL to 309 energy investments with an installed capacity of approximately 2,870 MW. We play an important role in the transition of our country to a low-carbon economy with the financing of wind power plants, which are very important in accessing clean energy.
