Rosatom and GDK Baimskaya LLC signed an agreement for the supply of energy to the Baimsky mining and processing plant (Baimsky GOK), located in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug region of Russia.
The agreement was signed by Rosatom Deputy General Manager, Head of the Northern Sea Routes Directorate Vyacheslav Rukşa, and Chairman of the Board of GDK Baimskaya LLC Oleg Novaçuk. The signing ceremony took place at the “Arctic Day” event organized by Rosatom.
The parties agreed that they will conclude a long-term “take-or-pay” contract for the purchase and sale 
of electricity until April 2022.
Rosatom proposed using optimized floating power units (OFPU) to supply electricity to Baimsky GOK. These units are currently being built at Atomenergomash, Rosatom’s machine building division.
Vyacheslav Rukşa said in a statement on the subject, “We are planning to build a total of 4 energy units, 3 main units and 1 spare unit, which will be used during the repair or refueling of one of the main units.”
Ruksha stated that the first 2 units are planned to be moved to the water area of Cape Naglyynyn at the end of 2026 and connected to the power lines going to Baimsky GOK.
Oleg Novachuk also stated at the signing ceremony that “The agreement between Rosatom and GDK Baimskaya LLC on the long-term purchase and sale of electricity will become the most important event of the comprehensive program for the development of the Arctic region of Russia”.
One of the most important elements of the agreement is that the parties plan to support the amendment of the existing Russian legislation on the electric power industry, which will enable more efficient investment in the Arctic region. The parties argue that this change is necessary for the development of effective mechanisms that will provide repayments to investors who produce long-term projects in the Arctic region.
