FSUE Atomflot, operating under the Russian State Atomic Energy Agency Rosatom, and Turkey Kuzey Star Shipyard Maritime Industry and Trade Joint Stock Company signed the agreement for the construction of a floating port for universal nuclear icebreakers within the scope of Project 22220.
The procurement procedure was carried out within the framework of the Federal Law of the Russian Federation No. 223-FZ “On the Purchase of Goods, Works, Services of Certain Types of Legal Entities” and in accordance with the Russian State Atomic Energy Agency Rosatom United industry purchasing standards. The contract value is 4 billion 981 million Rubles; that is, the protocol for summarizing the purchase results of the agreement, which amounted to approximately 69 billion dollars, was published on May 27, 2021.
In a statement on the subject, Atomflot General Manager Mustafa Kaşka said, “The signing of the agreement is an important step in the implementation of the coastal infrastructure preparation program for the maintenance of the universal nuclear icebreakers in Project 22220. The Turkish shipyard has the necessary qualifications and a good reputation in the shipbuilding market. According to the terms of the agreement, the construction of the floating dock will take 29 months, including its delivery to the Port of Murmansk.
Tuncay İmral, Chairman of the Board of Kuzey Star Shipyard, said, “We are very pleased to sign a contract with Atomflot FSUE, one of the most important state-owned companies of the Russian Federation. Winning a tender for such a prestigious project is a great honor for a Turkish shipyard. Participating in this project will create new beginnings and opportunities for Kuzey Star. The project will also help strengthen relations between Turkey and the Russian Federation.
The floating port, which will have a lifting capacity of 30 thousand tons, will be 220 meters long and 48 meters wide. At the floating port, which will have a length of at least 200 meters and a pontoon height of 6 meters along the slipway deck, 30 people will be able to serve for 7 days at the same time, depending on the diesel fuel and drinking water stocks, wastewater and domestic water collection capacity.
