It is Possible to Put an End to Electrical System Failures Causing Fire

Kategori : ELECTRICITY ENERGY NEWS, ENERGY AGENDA NEWS - Tarih : 03 August 2021

Approximately 30% of the fires occurring in residences and living spaces are arc originated. Automatic fuse and residual current protection relay used in electrical installations do not open the system in case of arc fault and cannot prevent the occurrence of fire. Legrand, which stepped in at this point, prevents possible bad scenarios by providing precise and safe protection against serial and parallel arc faults with AFDD, whose arc fault detection relays have microprocessor technology.

In fact, every day, we come across countless fire reports in the news and in the newspapers, which are said to have come from an electrical contact. The main cause of these fires, which are stated to originate from the electrical contact, is the arc faults in the electrical system.

If we look at the subject from another point of view, fuses are circuit elements that protect electrical circuits against short circuits and overloads, and they enable the circuits they are connected to be opened and closed thanks to their switches. Residual current protection switches, on the other hand, operate on the basis that the sum of the incoming and returning currents in any electrical installation is zero. In other words, the vectorial sum of the currents entering the phase and the currents returning from the neutral must be zero.

Arc fault detection relay AFDD working principle…

With this awareness, Legrand undertakes a fundamental task in preventing fires that may occur by detecting the high frequency that occurs during the arc with the help of the electronic circuit in the working principle of the arc fault detection relays AFDD with microprocessor technology and the arc fault relay.
